Orbs, Angles, Aspect Patterns...
Theory vs practice
In astrology, if you are studying or have finished your studies (like myself - just for the structure. Otherwise, I am not a big fan of strict rules at this stage in my life:))) at a school, then you might be familiar with all these ‘pre-defined’ orbs in natal chart, transits etc. etc.
However, these are all theoretical. In real life, when astrology is concerned, the things might not exactly reflect the theory. Practical reality could be completely different.
Especially when we think about the aspect patterns can we really stick to the ‘orb’ theories when the foundation of that person’s life (natal chart) is shouting out a completely different story? Can we? If you ask me, I will say ‘Absolutely no!’ We can’t stick…No way…
Again, in ‘theory’, maybe for some astrolgers in 'practice’ as well, the angles can’t make part of an aspect pattern…In some cases, I can relate to that but not always…
For this, I need to give an example from my own chart. My natal Pisces Moon standing beautifully next to my SN in the 8th house, is the handle of a bucket shape. The interesting thing about this sensitive, compassionate moon is that it is also making these quincunxes with my natal Mars and Ascendant which are sextiling each other. Ooops Ascendant! So, according to general rules I have been taught I didn’t have the courage to call it ‘Yod’. However, after my emancipation from the school structure and started thinking much deeply, in a more elaborated way, I said ‘No, it is Yod!’. It was hard to deny the meaning coming through that Pisces Moon anymore..The way it relates to my Sun, how it relates to my nodal axis especially its being one of the actors during the Lunar Eclipse I was born.
So, in the formal education it might be true that we need all these theories which reminds me that I was nearly failing my Applied Macroeconomic course at the university facing the loss of my scholarship!!! since I was a rebel. I was crying and at the same telling my professor that “All these theories, they are not applicable to real life despite of the name the course suggests!!” No worries, I got my BA in Econ with honours at the end.
Continuing from where I left (by the way I am listening to the Dutch Tenors on YouTube when I am writing, they are great), in practice when necessary we need to bend the rules, adapt, be flexible. That’s the way it is, at least for me.
If you don’t agree with me, if you practice in a complete different way, you have my full respect without any doubt.
Your constructive comments are always appreciated.
All the best,
Teri
P.S. I created this template on Canva app making a collage of some aspects, put some patterns (not astrological) etc.
